Core Strategy and Site Allocations DPD

North Shropshire District Council's Development Plans Team is currently undertaking the initial evidence gathering stage of preparing a Core Strategy Development Plan Document (DPD) and subsequent Site Allocations DPD for the District. These documents will be fundamental components in the replacement of the Local Plan and in due course will supersede most of the Local Plan policies and site allocations. Extensive research is being undertaken to inform the preparation of these documents, notably with regard to open space, employment and housing.  You can find out more about these pieces of research by clicking on the respective links below:

Consultation with stakeholders began during 2006 in order to feed local views into these pieces of work. Sustainability Appraisal Scoping Report

Central to the LDF Core Strategy and Site Allocation DPDs will be the theme of sustainability; that is ensuring there is a balance between economic, social and environmental objectives. In order to assess the sustainability of the LDF objectives and policies an appraisal process will be carried out. A Sustainability Appraisal Scoping Report has been prepared as the first step in producing a Core Strategy DPD which can be downloaded from this website by clicking here (.pdf format). This scoping report sets out the baseline information and sustainability framework against which the Core Strategy, and potentially subsequent documents, is proposed to be measured.

A five week consultation period has taken place, the results of which will inform the development of the Sustainability Appraisal framework for the LDF.

The next formal stage of Core Strategy preparation will be the development of Core Strategy Issues and Options (with ongoing public involvement). A Preferred Options Report is then scheduled to form the basis of a full Core Strategy public involvement exercise in 2008. A draft Core Strategy DPD is then expected to be worked up for submission to the Secretary of State by 2009 at which point Site Allocations DPD Issues and Options is also expected.
