Household Refuse Collection
Shropshire Waste Partnership are responsible for managing household waste and recycling services on behalf of North Shropshire District Council and other Shropshire authorities.
These services will be delivered on behalf of SWP by Veolia Environmental Services. Veolia will be responsible for producing and delivering your collection date calendars and other information leaflets.
Your refuse is collected fortnightly on alternate weeks from your green waste.
Your collection
The collection of household waste is a vital service that maintains the area as a healthy, safe and clean place to live.
A kerbside, alternate weekly collection of domestic waste is provided. This is through 240 litre wheeled bins and recycling boxes. The maximum weight in a wheeled bin is 75kg.
By providing you with boxes for your recyclables and taking kitchen waste and cardboard in the green waste collection, the amount of rubbish you will have to put in the grey bin should have decreased dramatically.
For details about:
- your collection day
- the location and opening times of civic amenity sites
- any local civic amenity collections
- what to put in which bin
or any other questions you may have, please contact Shropshire Waste Partnership using the information below, or call the helpline on 08456 789 009.
SWP will:
- Collect your refuse on the same day on alternate weeks (with the exception of Christmas, New Year and Bank Holidays). One week will be your green waste and recyclables, and the next your residual waste (grey bin).
- Let you know which day your collection is by delivering a calendar to you. If you do not have a calendar please contact the helpline on 0845 678 9009 or email customerfirst@shropshire-cc.gov.uk. Details of collection days are also available - please click here.
- Advertise well in advance any changes to the collection service within the local press.
- Give you a date for collection and aim to collect large items within 10 days of a request being made.
- Provide facilities for recycling waste.
You can help by:
- Putting the refuse out to the edge of your property for emptying and collecting it after emptying. Special arrangements can be made if you are unable to do this.
- Making sure that when you request removal of large items, these items are easily accessible on the day arranged to collect them.
- Using the recycling facilities and composting garden waste.
- Making sure bins / boxes are out for collection by 07:00 hours on the due collection date.
- Making sure there is no contamination in your green bin or recycling boxes.
You can stop junk mail at source by contacting the helpline who will provide you with a leaflet or online with the Mailing Preference Service or telephone 08457 034 599.
In most cases the contents of your grey bin will be:
- Plastics - you can recycle some plastic bottles at the Household Recycling Centre in Whitchurch or Shrewsbury. Plastics recycling banks are now also available in Ellesmere (Talbot Street Carpark), Hinstock (Memorial Hall), Market Drayton (Morrisons Carpark), Prees (Church Street Carpark), and Wem (High Street Carpark). Please click here for more information regarding locations of recycling banks.
- Coated paper and card
- Disposable nappies - please wrap them in an old carrier bag or something similar. Contact the Real Nappy Network for information on reusable nappies.
- Crockery and china
No additional waste placed at the side of the grey bin will be taken and the lid of the bin must be shut.
