Licence - Executive Vehicles

North Shropshire District Council introduced a policy in 2002 with regard to the licensing of executive type vehicles.  Executive Vehicles are subject to the same requirements as Private Hire Vehicles, however they are not required to display an external plate.

The requirements are as follows:

  • Vehicles must be executive type vehicles like a Mercedes, Rolls Royce etc and the policy is not applied only to new cars, they can also be vintage.
  • This Authority operates a ten year age policy, however an exception can be made for this type of vehicle as long as all requirements are met.
  • The policy is not applied to any other type of car unless there is a proven need for the vehicle not displaying the full sized private hire plate.  The Senior Licensing Officer will decide whether or not the need and type of vehicle are acceptable.
  • Normally the requirements for a private hire vehicle will have to be met, but in the event that the vehicle cannot meet all of these requirements e.g. the vehicle only has two doors, then the decision will be made by the Licensing Committee.  In the event that the decision is to be made by the Licensing Committee, the applicant will be expected to bring the vehicle to the venue where the meeting is being held to enable Members to reach a decision on the vehicle's suitability.
  • A higher charge will be made for licensing this type of vehicle.
