Planning Applications - Public Access Module

Welcome to North Shropshire District Council's Public Access Module, which provides on-line information on recent and current Planning Applications. In addition to being able to search general information regarding applications, the module also allows you to view associated plans and documents relating to the applications. All information is presented directly from our databases meaning that all results are fully up-to-date. There is also a facility that will allow you to comment on current applications.

Information relating to historical planning applications is in the process of being added to our databases, however, this will take some time to complete. In the meantime users of the Public Access Module need to be aware of the Limitations.

Before proceeding to the searches we strongly advise that you read the Protecting your Privacy section from the list below.

Information regarding planning applications can be accessed through five different routes:

  • A list of recently received applications
  • Searching for a specific application by number or date range
  • Advanced search by Parish, Status and Decision
  • Search by Property Address
  • Search for Appeals

These searches can be selected using the navigation bar at the top of the Public Access Module pages.

From the Applications Details page it is also possible to view associated documents. Where such documents exist a list will be presented. These will typically include the original application form and any supporting letters, plans, large-scale drawings, and decision information.

Selecting a document will result in the contents being displayed in Adobe PDF format.

Should you experience any difficulty using these pages, please contact our Customer Service centre on 01939 232771 or use the on-line contact form accessible through the 'Contact Us' tab at the top of this page.

Limitations

At present only documents relating to applications validated from 2 January 2008 are available for viewing on line. Should you wish to view any documents relating to applications prior to January 2008 please contact the Planning Department (planning@northshropshiredc.gov.uk).

Historical applications may not be linked to a property reference and therefore will not show as a result using the Property Search facility. We recommend that where a property history list is required, you contact the Planning Department (planning@northshropshiredc.gov.uk).

Further to the above, the on-line planning history related to any specific site at present is incomplete and must NOT be used as a substitute for carrying out a formal 'Land Charge Search'. No responsibility will be taken for any errors or omissions in the planning history information obtained through the Public Access Module. Similarly, the information contained within the Public Access Module does not constitute in any way a formal notification of a planning decision, and as such, any actions taken as a result of information displayed on this website are undertaken entirely at the viewer's own risk.

Under normal circumstances the plans and documents associated with new planning applications will be available for viewing within five working days of receipt of the application. If none are displayed at that time, you may wish to try again a few days later, or alternatively, you will be able to view the application and associated documents at the Council's Edinburgh House Offices, New Street, Wem, Shropshire, SY4 5DB and at your local Town / Parish Councils.

You will need Adobe Acrobat Viewer software in order to view associated documents. This can be downloaded free of charge from the Adobe website at http://www.adobe.co.uk

Protecting your Privacy

North Shropshire District Council has been updating the planning service in line with Government requirements and now all planning applications and supporting documentation is scanned and made available for public scrutiny through the Planning Public Access Module. When scanning documents we take reasonable care to ensure that we are operating within the constraints of the Data Protection Act 1998, and the Freedom of Information Act 2005.

All applicants and contributors to applications are advised that they should take care not to include personal data such as mobile or personal telephone numbers and email addresses on any document sent to the Planning Department. We scan many hundreds of documents each week and cannot be sure that all occurrences of such data may be noted and removed. If you wish to provide these details to the planning officers, it is best to do so in a covering note which will not be scanned.

When making comments by e-mail it is often best if you add the comments in an attachment rather than in the body of the e-mail, this will enable us to scan the attachment without having to scan the e-mail header and return address. We should also advise that when submitting comments these should be related only to planning matters and care should be taken not to include anything that might cause offence. If making a handwritten submission it may be advisable to strike diagonally through your signature once. This will leave the signature readable but will assist in preventing it being copied.

While we are legally enabled to publish correspondent's names and addresses we can also undertake to withhold this information to protect individuals in certain exceptional circumstances, such as those in refuge from domestic violence, or persons in the public eye. If you are in such a category and wish us to withhold publication of your name and address, please inform us when you submit your documents.

We are aware that commercial companies may copy weekly lists of planning applications as a source for cold-calling to offer building and similar services. The council has no means of preventing this and advise intending applicants that they may wish to use the Telephone Preference Service and Mail Preference Service, as detailed below, to prevent themselves from being exposed to such practices.

Telephone preference service http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/tps/ - The Telephone Preference Service (TPS) is a central opt out register whereby individuals can register their wish not to receive unsolicited sales and marketing telephone calls. It is a legal requirement that companies do not make such calls to numbers registered on the TPS.

Mail preference service http://www.mpsonline.org.uk/mpsr/ - The MPS Consumer File is a list of names and addresses of consumers who have requested not to receive sales and advertising mail. The use of the Consumer File by direct mail organisations is a requirement of the British Code of Advertising, Sales Promotion and Direct Marketing administered by the Advertising Standards Authority. It is also a condition under the Code of Practice of the Direct Marketing Association.
