Short Term Accommodation
Information Available:
Bed and Breakfast Accommodation
Bed and Breakfast Accommodation is interim accommodation and offered to homeless applicants in an emergency, who are in priority need and who have nowhere else to stay, ie they cannot stay with family and friends. They will have completed a homeless application and may or may not have been given a homeless decision. Bed and Breakfast accommodation is offered if there is no other accommodation available and only on a temporary basis. Homeless applicants have to contribute to the cost of the bed and breakfast accommodation and this will depend on how much income that is received. Applicants will be asked to complete a benefit form and they will be advised by the Council's Benefit Service on their entitlement
The Council arranges the bed and breakfast accommodation and this can be anywhere in the District or out of the District depending on availability. There is only one offer of interim accommodation therefore if a person refused the bed and breakfast accommodation the Council will not offer any further interim accommodation. The person will have to wait for secure accommodation if the Council has accepted a duty to house them.
It is paramount that once placed into Bed and Breakfast accommodation that you abide by the establishments rules and regulations and that you do not cause any damage or nuisance whilst resident. If you are asked to leave for any reason then the Council will take this as you personally losing the temporary accommodation due to your conduct and no further offers of temporary accommodation will be made.
If for any reasons the interim accommodation is not occupied on a full time basis then the Council will cancel the arrangements immediately.
Other forms of Temporary Accommodation
The Council may have other forms of temporary accommodation to offer homeless families who the Council owe a duty to and this will also be offered in a similar way to Bed and Breakfast Accommodation. If interim accommodation is refused then no further offer of interim accommodation will be made. The Homelessness Officer will still deal with the homeless application but applicants will have to wait for a decision on the homeless duty. This temporary accommodation may be a furnished property or unfurnished property.
