The Housing Options Team is currently based at North Shropshire District Council, Edinburgh House, New Street, Wem, Shropshire, SY4 5DB.  This is the place to be if you require advice, homelessness prevention, homelessness advice and any information on the following:

The Council administers the Housing Register and provide temporary accommodation for

homeless families.  Many people apply to go onto the Council's Housing Register and we work

closely with Housing Associations to offer accommodation to customers.  If we are unable to

offer customers a home, we may still be able to help with your problem.

Reality Check

In reality, we cannot close our waiting list to new applicants.  We are adding people on every day and the list is growing.

People who are already on the Council's Housing Register have told us that if they had realised how long the wait for permanent housing would be, they would have been more willing to consider other options when they first applied.

The Council is working very hard to increase the supply of available, but there are simply not enough houses to go around.  So, the Housing Options Team will always suggest alternative housing options that may resolve your problem more quickly.

Homelessness

The Council recognise that it is not always possible to prevent someone becoming homeless and emergency situations can arise.  In exceptional circumstances it may be necessary to make an application for assistance under the homeless legislation (Housing Act 1996 as amended by the Homelessness Act 2002).  If you need to discuss emergency options or think you may need to make a homeless application then please contact the Housing Options Team at North Shropshire District Council on Tel 01939  238520.

Assistance to move

If North Shropshire District Council accepts a duty to house Homeless applicants then they may get help with moving and storage of their belongings.  Obviously there is a cost to this which will be calculated on their earnings.  Therefore they will be required to pay back the cost of removals and storage of belongings.
