Homeless Prevention Fund
The Council has a small fund available for homelessness prevention.
North Shropshire District Council endeavours to help people avoid becoming homeless through prevention rather than just processing an application under the homelessness legislation. These prevention schemes could be as follows:
-
offering Mediation between potentially homeless people and their parents or landlords to resolve issues that would otherwise result in the loss of accommodation
-
Tenancy sustainment - issues like anti-social behaviour and rent arrears where we need to address these issues so they do not contribute to the problem of homelessness by evicting individuals.
-
Preventing repeat homelessness. Working with individuals to find accommodation, work with other organisations to offer floating support to help formerly homeless people maintain their own accommodation.
-
Offer a rent deposit scheme to allow people threatened with homelessness to access private sector accommodation.
These are a small amount of options which are being pursued to reduce homelessness within the North Shropshire District.
When you contact the Hosuing Options Team for advice on your options then discussions will take place on what is available to individuals and families.
