Access to Affordable Housing

The Council aims to ensure affordable Housing is provided for people with a local connection to the immediate area.  Priority is therefore usually given to people who live or work locally in the District or - for more rural schemes - within the Parish, or have some other local connection to the area.  These criteria may vary for each individual scheme.

Affordability Figures

The Council's approach has been to refer an assessment of weekly household outgoings of those in need and relating this to a range of maximum prices that at the time of the needs survey were affordable to those in need. At 2007 prices this would require to be provided at weekly outgoing costs not exceeding:

£104, £120 and £135 for 1, 2 and 3 or more bedroom properties respectively.  These figures are updated on an annual basis via inflation.  In effect, which falls within this definition is likely to be rented or shared ownership within North Shropshire District Council.

Negotiations are currently underway to increase the supply of Discounted Market Sales.  The percentage discounts available may vary from scheme to scheme and for different property types.
