Private Landlords
The following information is available in this category:-
- Licencing of Houses In Multiple Occupation (HMO)
- Illegal Evictions and Harrassment
- Local Estate Agents
Private Landlords tend mainly to advertise their vacant properties in the local press or via residential lettings agents. You can also search for private rental properties via the internet.
Link to list of local private lettings agents.
There is generally a good choice of all types of accommodation but weekly or monthly rents are at the local market value, which can sometimes be difficult to afford if you are on a low income. You may also be required to provide a deposit, meet the cost of legal fees, pay rent in advance and provide references.
If you think you may need assistance to pay a market rent you can check your eligibility for benefit. Depending upon your circumstances you could be eligible for and/or council tax benefit even if you are working or are not eligible for tax credits.
