Gypsies & Travellers
The Housing Act 2004 (Section 225) places a duty on local authorities to undertake an assessment of the accommodation needs of Gypsies and Travellers residing in or resorting to their district. Shropshire & Herefordshire Housing Officers Group (SHHOG) and associated stakeholders which North Shropshire District Council is one stakeholder wish to commission a sub regional Gypsy and Traveller Accommodation Assessment. The purpose of this is to inform the preparation of the member authorities' respective Gypsy and Travellers Accommodation Strategies and their Local Development Frameworks. The period of the assessment is the next ten years to 2016.
Findings to be published shortly.
Shropshire County Council operate 5 travellers sites and 46 caravan plots gypsy's/travellers around the County.
There are also a number of privately owned traveller's sites around the County.
Unlawful encampments are found around the County on a regular basis.
