Household Recycling Centres & Entry Permits
Shropshire Waste Partnership are responsible for managing household waste and recycling services on behalf of North Shropshire District Council and other Shropshire authorities.
These services will be delivered on behalf of SWP by Veolia Environmental Services. Veolia will be responsible for producing and delivering your collection date calendars and other information leaflets.
Household Recycling Centres
Shropshire County Council runs five Household Recycling Centres (HRCs) at which you can recycle up to 20 different types of waste, including paper, cans, glass, plastic bottles, batteries, cardboard, electrical items and garden waste.
The disposal site within North Shropshire can be found at Waymills Civic Park, Whitchurch.
Opening Times
Winter opening times (from Monday 27 October 2008 to Sunday 1 March 2009) will be 9am to 5pm everyday. The Centres are closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.
Who needs permits?
Anyone taking waste to the Whitchurch or Shrewsbury Household Recycling sites in:
- A commercial type vehicle e.g. vans, pick up trucks, or four wheel drives with goods bodies. If there is any doubt as to whether a vehicle falls into this category contact Shropshire County Council on 0845 678 9009 for clarification.
- A trailer towed by any vehicle.
Who can apply?
- Any resident of the Shropshire County Council area can apply for permits to take their household waste to a recycling centre. Telford & Wrekin Council residents must apply to that Council for permits to use a Telford area site.
- Permits cannot be used to take any waste from any business to a recycling centre for disposal or recycling. This includes household waste transported for profit.
How do I apply?
Completion of a written application form which can be:
- Posted to SCC Waste Management Unit, Shirehall, Abbey Foregate, Shrewsbury, SY2 6ND.
- Faxed to 01743 253063 during the office hours below. Please phone the Permit Administrator on 01743 253062 to confirm that the fax has been received. One permit can be returned by fax to these council offices if you call into Edinburgh House to apply and the remaining ones sent by first class post to your home.
- In person at Shirehall, Shrewsbury during the opening hours below. Applicants should bring proof of identity and address (such as a driving licence or utility bill). Five permits can be issued if proof of identity is shown, otherwise one permit only will be issued.

- For vehicles hired at short notice only - by telephone to 01743 253062 during the above office hours. Permits are sent out by first class post.
- In exceptional circumstances a single permit can be faxed to the Recycling Centre.
How are permits used?
- 15 permits are issued per application (5 in the case of hired or borrowed vehicles) and permits show the drivers name and vehicle details.
- The permits are only valid for the person named and vehicle described.
- A permit must be handed over each time a van or trailer is taken to the recycling centres.
