Delivering better value for money
What the proposal says |
What this would mean for North Shropshire |
|
30. The reorganisation of local government in Shropshire is a radical option for delivering significant costs savings. |
30. Government already requires and will require in the future cost savings from all councils. |
| 31. Whilst there will be one-off costs of c£3m associated with a reorganisation, there will be annual support services savings of over £7.8m from the start of the new council. There is a further sum to be gained from service re-configurations; we believe this will be at least £2m, again with no adverse impact on services - indeed with service improvements. In the first 4 years of the new Council an estimate of £36.6m savings will be accrued. |
|
| 32.. The costs of equalising Council Tax to Shropshire's lowest levels are estimated at £4.3m*. Council's supporting this bid believe that the new council can be created with a commitment to council tax levels in years 1 and 2 of 3.5%, which would be the lowest levels of council tax for Shropshire County Council for 10 years. |
32. In North Shropshire the Council tax you pay is made up from the charges levied by Parish or Town Councils, District Council, County Council, the Police and the Fire and Rescue Service. Only the portion paid to the District and County Councils would be affected by these proposals. We would like to know to what degree would you support or oppose the proposal and whether your view would change if your Council Tax was affected by the proposal (Q9 in the question booklet) |
